The Empire of Austenasia has expanded with the admission of two new territories, the Marcher Lordship of Tucktonia and the Territory of Lagentia. Both were founded in recent days and both have now been formally constituted, each with its own flag and its own appointed governor.
Tucktonia
The Marcher Lordship of Tucktonia was founded following a meeting between its landholder, Joe Tarleton, and Deputy Prime Minister Samuel Smith. The Lordship’s claim consists of a claim in Bournemouth, in the English county of Dorset. Tarleton takes the style of Marcher Lord of Tucktonia, a title recalling the frontier lordships of the mediaeval Anglo-Welsh border, whose holders enjoyed a degree of autonomy unusual within the realm.
The Tucktonian flag is a Nordic cross of red upon a yellow field. At the crossing sits a roundel bearing blue waves against white, a reference to the coastal setting of the claim. The design has already attracted comment: several observers have remarked that the roundel, set against the yellow field, puts them in mind of a Christmas pudding. The Times records the observation without endorsing it, and notes that the same has been said at one time or another of a great many perfectly respectable armorial charges.
Under the terms of its foundation, the Marcher Lord will administer the territory in the ordinary manner and takes his place among the Empire’s territorial governors.
Lagentia
The Territory of Lagentia was founded by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Stannius Caesar, whose claim consists of a house in Leeds, in the English county of Yorkshire.
As Crown Prince and Caesar, His Imperial Highness is constitutionally barred from holding office within the territorial administration. The governorship has therefore passed to Cornelius Cain, who takes up the office with immediate effect. The Austenasian Times congratulates Governor Cain warmly on his appointment, and observes that his willingness to accept the administration of a territory situated in Leeds speaks well of both his sense of duty and his tolerance for adversity. The Empire is fortunate in such men.
The Lagentian flag is a horizontal tricolour of blue, yellow and blue, the central yellow band being twice the height of either of the blue. Across the yellow runs the motto HOSTES PEREANT — “may the enemies perish” — rendered in black capitals in a serif hand.
Representation
As territorial governors, both Lord Tarleton and Governor Cain are entitled to seats in the Senate, and will sit accordingly upon taking up their offices. Further particulars of each territory’s arms, boundaries and administration are expected to be published in due course.
