Prime Minister Andrew Musgrave has proposed a framework aimed at reducing tensions between the two principal Austenasian factions, calling for what he described as a “mutually beneficial co-existence arrangement”.
In a public statement addressed to “my fellow Austenasian friends across the aisle”, Musgrave argued that, despite continuing political disagreements, both communities remain united by a shared appreciation for Austenasia itself. He urged members of both factions to place that common interest ahead of ongoing disputes.
The proposal comes after a prolonged period of disagreement between the two communities, during which relations have become increasingly strained.
A Shared Heritage
Central to the statement is the argument that neither faction can claim to embody the original vision of Austenasia in its entirety.
“Fundamentally, we’re both Austenasia, and neither of us are Austenasia,” Musgrave wrote, reflecting on the Empire’s origins as the project of a thirteen-year-old founder before comparing its evolution to the philosophical “Ship of Theseus” thought experiment. He argued that both communities have developed from the same historical roots while pursuing different visions for the future.
Rather than attempting to recreate the past, Musgrave said both sides should recognise their shared history while focusing on building their respective communities.
Proposal for Coexistence
The proposal outlines a broad principle of peaceful coexistence between the two factions, with the intention of reducing conflict and allowing each community to continue operating independently.
Under the proposal, both groups would acknowledge the existence of the other as a separate faction without recognising the other’s claim to represent the Empire of Austenasia. The proposal also seeks an end to campaigns intended to delegitimise one another and calls for members of both communities to refrain from harassment or personal attacks.
Musgrave further indicated that his government would be prepared to avoid enforcing its registered “Austenasia” trademark against the other faction, provided that its activities did not conflict with the Empire’s commercial interests or enter areas protected by the trademark. Trademark enforcement, he suggested, would remain a measure of last resort should those agreed boundaries be crossed.
The proposal would therefore seek to replace ongoing confrontation with a structured understanding under which both communities could continue their activities without interfering in each other’s day-to-day affairs.
Invitation to Negotiate
Concluding his statement, Musgrave confirmed that the Imperial Government is open to discussing the proposal with representatives of the other faction.
“If that is an outcome that you share,” he wrote, “then please get in contact with me or our representatives.”
